IBM gives Notes 7 more than a face-lift

Test Center review: Lotus Notes 7 brings a whole raft of new capabilities and platform support that are not merely cosmetic, writes Mike Heck. "The general user experience is better in Notes 7." Also, the new iteration is priced competitively with Exchange and GroupWise. "Notes and Domino 7, however, can have a better TCO, the result of supporting more users per CPU, easier administration, and integration with other IBM Lotus products, such as Sametime for online meetings. This makes a convincing upgrade argument for existing customers -- and a sound reason for considering a switch from other solutions." Read the full review here.

Reader comments: In the ongoing discussion about Microsoft's responsiveness when it comes to bug fixes, another frustrated reader chimes in: "I really do not think they care," he writes, referring to what he calls the "Double Quote Bug" that creeps in during the mail merge process. Search: Business Objects, with a new module, aims to make it easier for Google search appliance users to find and view corporate data stored in Crystal reports and Web Intelligence documents.

Podcasts: In today's Storage Sprawl we look at the enterprise-worthy innovations that IBM's Viper brings, remaining pain points, and why Microsoft and Oracle are killing DB2 in the marketplace.
