Quote of the day: the downsides of Adobe's license management

Most customers want to stay in compliance with their software licenses, and most would probably acknowledge they could do a better job of it than they are. Only software companies with a near monopoly (Microsoft?) dare employ license controls. The motivation for this is usually the need to meet ever larger corporate profit projections in the face of an increasingly saturated market. As former software product manager of a much smaller company, our philosophy of unauthorized license use was, at least they weren't using our competitors product. What Adobe needs is some competition. Maybe it's time for Novell to dust off and update the WordPerfect Envoy document format.
