Waking the Sleeping Giant

With all of the talk about MS not caring about DBAs lately (and I'm still getting emails about it), it also seems as though MS has taken notice. They've contacted me and want to discuss our different views on how well they like DBAs. We're actually not able to hook up until next week sometime, but when we finally do, I'll be pretty anxious to report to you how it goes. What I'm expecting from the conversation is some detail on where we've been with DBA tools, where we are now, and where they plan to take us. I know a lot of you are looking forward to hearing their response as well, and I'll let you know when I have something.

Here are the blogs I've written on the topic:
Why Doesn't MS Care about DBAs?
I Guess It's True Then

Typical MS. I swear they don't have anyone that works in the real world. It is like one big dumb and dumber party, swimming in arrogance as only MS can patting each on their backs for coming up with the next stupidest thing. After all isn't this the same company that still hides the extensions of files. The number ONE thing I have found that confuses new users I have helped with their PCs.

"No, there are not three files with the same name. Here let me change a setting for you. See, each one has a different ending."

They all reply, "Why would Microsoft do such a stupid thing as hiding it?"

Yes, why?

I live and work in their backyard so to speak and run into them all the time at user's groups, presentations, etc. Talking with any MS employee you quickly realize they don't give a rip about anything you have to say. I even have a couple of friends that work at MS. It really has changed them, everything is MS speak. They don't have individual thoughts anymore. It's really strange to see it happen to someone you have known for a long time. Bill G. has always had that to 'hell with anyone else's opinion' and that has become the SOP for Microsoft. Let's see what's that saying, "Pride cometh before the FALL".
