Microsoft applies for RSS patents (in Vista only?)

Microsoft has filed two separate patents involving RSS technology. The patents were originally filed 18 months ago, just days before the company announced RSS support for IE7, but were only released to the public yesterday.
Just what the world needs--Microsoft to claim control over something they didn't create. I'm not even sure how it makes sense if the context is just the Vista OS...
