Google apps for the Enterprise
I finally had some time to check out Google Apps Premier Edition and I have to say they could easily win me over were it not for one missing item: Sync.
You have to have sync for Outlook and iCal before you can truly be enterprise (or even small business) functional. Maybe I just couldn't find it?
It's not realistic in this day and age to do calendar share etc. with the abundance of mobile devices and users. Otherwise its a great offering especially when you have a hugely disparate team like I do.

well, you can pull in the calendar locally via the ical share - and publish to gcal likewise (at least from ical). might also want to take a look at gcalsync, though i don't know how well it works.
Posted by: stephen o'grady at February 23, 2007 12:37 PMI tried them all...ical share is not great to deal with and the back and forth is a struggle. Gcalsync went south on my 8700

Online apps have a problem in general with productivity (good comment here:http://www.beyondvc.com/2007/02/goffice_continu.html)
But the GApp Api should solve a lot of those issues... for example we are developing an FREE open source "business application platform" (think salesforce.com). Our first application is working tightly integrated with GOOGLE APPS. http://www.applicationexchange.com.
Posted by: edbong at February 24, 2007 12:11 PMBiggest problem I see with any of these apps, is that relying on them for your business needs is a bit flaky. I would rather have my own IT staff manage/secure my corporate emails, calendars, IP, etc... than have it floating around on the internet for google to manage. Then again, no internet => no office environment is a no-go as well. ;-)
Posted by: Roy Russo at February 25, 2007 06:53 PMYeah, Google is a *bit* scary, cause really who knows what they might do with your stuff. On the other hand at least we know they invest heavily in hardware and have no choice but to backup their data...more that most us can claim to have done in our IT shops.
Posted by: Dave Rosenberg at February 25, 2007 07:25 PMYou can sync Google Calendar with your mobile devices.
Take a look at www.goosync.com.
It's works, works well and its free.
