Kill all the lawyers (and start with Lerach)
I've long admired Shakespeare's simple solution to litigation: "The first thing, let's kill all the Lawyers," proclaimed in Henry VI Part II - Revenge of the Nerds. In Silicon Valley the sentiment against lawyers took a fever pitch when Bill Lerach started filing class-action lawsuits against leading tech companies. But as it turns out, Lerach himself was involved in a kickback scandal and has been sentenced to 2 years in prison, a forfeit of $7.75 million in profits and a fine of $250,000.
It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Incarceration of crooked lawyers is like eating potato chips - impossible to stop after just one. For more on Milberg Weiss and friends see www.stoplegalfiction.org
Posted by: Theodore A. Bechtold, Esq. at February 16, 2008 06:28 PMKeep in mind that trial lawyers, like Milberg, are the Democrats single biggest contributors. These people have to be dealt with.

They are terrible. The problem is how to deal with them but allow valid cases to go forward.
Everyone in high tech should ask about candidates positions on these trial lawyers as these lawyers keep hurting our industry (and every industry they go after.)
I read about Lerach years ago in a copy of Forbes in the dentists office. Forbes has been riding him for years and he's finally getting his due.

But there are many more trial lawyers out there. That John Edwards is one who scammed a lot of moeny from companies/people.
Posted by: AlFromChicago at February 19, 2008 10:46 AMGet real; this guy will be out in six weeks. I was involved in the highest levels of Califonia politics before falling out (enough said). California is a patronage state and this guy is the poster boy for Democrat Party patronage; here is why he getting out....
"His lawyer, John Keker, asked for six months behind bars and six months of home confinement, saying Lerach had accepted responsibility for his actions, apologized and suffered humiliation and the loss of a profession he loved"
"He's sooo sorry" and he still has a pocketful of money. That is how the Party works these days. Oh, and that line about killing all the lawyers; you don't need to. Just getting rid of the Class Action attorneys in California would change the second oldest profession in a positive way forever.
As a recovering lawyer, I can proudly say I'm not on any class actions and I don't represent any patent trolls. I'm up to step 3, beginning work on step 4.
You do need to be careful about your literary references, however. Those Shakespearinan guys advocating killing ALL the lawyers were anarchist terrorists plotting the overthrow of the government. (You can look it up.) I suspect that's not quite where you meant to go.
Posted by: J. Waldron at February 19, 2008 11:41 AMHmmm... "anarchist terrorists..." I can almost hear George III calling the Founding Fathers something like that... ;-)
Posted by: alf at February 19, 2008 12:52 PMZach buddy. What have you done for me lately. You can chill out now man. You're made.
