In working on Steps I've been getting through the application semantics analysis phase and came up with the following meta-process:
In essence we are doing a few primary sub-steps:
First, perform metadata analysis from existing legacy systems (stuff we have now), and systems existing within other enterprises (partners), but still make up our data domain.
Second, define the data abstraction layer. There are many many sub-steps under this one, but the idea is to create another metadata layer above the physical for use within the SOA.
Finally, define the data services to support the data abstraction layer.
