Notes from OMG’s Maximizing BPM Investments with SOA Workshop Presentation…With Audio

I did my presentation at OMG's Maximizing BPM Investments with SOA Workshop held in Orlando FL this morning. It was very nice of OMG to invite me, and very good questions from those attending. Here is the complete recording of my presentation. If you're looking for the slides, drop me an e-mail here.

Overall I'm not sure why we are still linking SOA with BPM, the links to me a clear and already established. Indeed SOA is about abstraction of services into a layer that supports configuration, more so than programming. More often than not that's going to be a process, workflow, or SOBA layer. The ability to place volatility into a single domain provides the agility aspect of SOA, and thus process is a very important concept within SOA.

I think those who heard my talk this morning already got that, but do the rest of you?

Enjoy the presentation. Let me know what you think.

Well! a relief that someone in the SOA community knows who the Object Management Group is and the importance of using reusable objects to accomplish these goals. When I send most of the companies that approach me on SOA a "are you a member of the OMG" all I get back is a blank stare. (hard to accomplish in e-mail). Apparantly Dr. Soley's words (President, OMG) haven't completely fallen on deaf ears.
