Submit your own "Save XP" video

Submit Your "Save XP" Video
InfoWorld encourages you to contribute your own videos on why XP should be saved. (Although our plea is serious, why not have some fun at the same time, right?) To help meet the goal of spreading the word about the "Save XP" petition effort, we do ask that each video show the www.SaveXP.com URL. We'll post the best entries in our site's video library through June 30, but if you get yours in by May 15 and we deem it one of the top three submissions we receive, we’ll give you a Windows XP upgrade license. Videos must be in Flash, QuickTime, or AVI formats, at 320-by-240-pixel size. E-mail a link to your video to Executive Editor Galen Gruman.

This is the best effort, many thanks InfoWorld to help us to save from Vista...

The XP is much better than the Vista. The view is very beautiful, but inefficient, so I always use windows xp. Here in Brazil nobody like the view and 80% prefer using xp

OH did you hit the sore spot.

The main reason we should focus on is Microsoft is shoving another release down our throats without even considering all of the problems of implementation, lack of drivers and service packs that don't exist for a ton of printers, software and other hardware that is not compliant with Vista.

So we are forced to shove a square peg into a round hole. I say lets force a clear message to Microsoft, fix the major issues with Vista and its ability to run older hardware and software and we might consider the upgrade path.

I have a friend who was basically forced to go out and buy a new printer because their old one wouldn't work on Vista. When does this circle of forced purchase end?

Why don't we take this a step further. Lets find a company willing to support XP Professional. Since Microsoft's claim is that they cannot afford to support it. Release the product licenses to this company so they can Continue delivering the product, and take the so called burden away from the largest software vendor on the face of the earth.

I bet in a matter of months that company would hold the majority market on OEM and retail sales.

Anyway, sorry for the rant... but what a sore spot.

XP is MUCH better than Vista. XP doesen't require so much ram and it's much faster. I love Windows XP!

We have played this game before. I have tons of old hardware that was orphaned and now useless because of Microsoft upgrades. Backward compatibility should be standard for any new o/s. It's the honorable thing to do.

Posted by: Mac at February 1, 2008 07:28 AM

Mac they got rid of backward compatibility for a reason. All previous versions of window where built on top of previous builds, a bit like patching a wall. This then meant a lot of holes in vulnerability. And a lot more work to patch them, due to the way the OS was built on top of each other. Hell xp had some 3.1 in there somewhere!
With Vista they created a totally clean OS. No fragments of old OS in it anywhere. Of course there are still holes that need patching, but now they can patch them a lot quicker and cleaner. I haven't had one problem with vista, no hardware or software issues at all. And I run a lot of things. In fact if vista has had more drivers created and updated for it in the first few months of release than any other OS. XP when it first came out had more driver problems than Vista. No sorry as much as I like XP, I like Vista more, it's cleaner, faster and I don't get as many crashes as I did with XP. Had vista for a year now, and have only had one crash in that time.

My only moan with it is the prices that MS is charging for the software!

I have a copy of Vista but had so many problems with it I reverted back to good old xp . There was a lot of hype about this so called new version called vista i succumb in the end and bought what i consider was a mistake. love live xp

I will not be bullied into changing my OS, I find Vista frustrating and slow. Keep XP.

I'm worried that Windows 7 being rushed through, after all the problems with Vista, will Microsoft end up with an even bigger White Elephant than Vista. Does not reassure me I can tell you.

Also do not like Office 2007, OK, but Microsoft need to ask users and trainers such as myself their opinions on these changes which are not always for the better, except for Microsoft and their bank balance!

I have a copy of xp on my desk top and vista on my laptop put it is slow to run and as so many conflicts with other non Microsoft programmes

I think I speak for a lot of people and business's here in the UK when I say 'NO' to Vista, unless Microsoft can deliver the goods as far as complete backwards compatibilty is concerned.

Never mind all the unecessary equipment upgrades which would be hard on small to medium companies, especially here in the UK where hardware/software cost's are almost double anywhere else in the world, but aren't we all supposed to be helping to save the world, again, by recycling and saving energy. I am not really a 'green' person but I think this is one of those things that just doesn't make any sense, why?

People are not stupid, we all understand that Microsoft is a business and needs to make money as does any other company and updates/upgrades when necessary are all part of life's continouing evolution, but why this, this Vista (Vista used to be a curry manufacturer here in UK, that died out), now that they know all the issues with XP, bring out a 'New' cleaned XP, put a new front end on that, I think you'll find that more people would fall for that one.

And anyway, forcing everyone to upgrade, because they have to stay in business, isn't that a monopoly??

I'm sorry, I am only one person but I can't convince myself to upgrade to Vista (just cos it looks nice, not good enough) and hopefully even Microsoft can see that one person becomes two people, two people becomes three people...ad infinitum.

If we look at the whole picture and the interests of all the different parties, one fact seems obvious, the sale and support for XP should continue for much longer than is planned at present. It is unrealistic to expect it to continue forever, or to expect Microsoft to allow another company to provide support and development for it. It does however, seem reasonable to expect Microsoft to provide this service until Windows 7 is available. If 7 has all the attributes of XP, some of the benefits of Vista and the problems of neither then most users will be happy. It would help if MS could tell hardware manufacturers what to expect long before 7 is released.

I bought a Sony Vaio laptop with Vista and was staggered how slow it was - it drove me demented. So I rolled it back to XP. There were all sorts of driver problems, I had to pay extra for the XP software and I lost the lovely OEM software bundle you get on Vaios. But it's lovely - the laptop is fast and smooth and responsive and starts quickly and I know where everything is. Vista isn't necessarily bad, it's just XP is good. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And certainly don't bury it and replace it with something we're just not ready for yet.

Posted by: Tom Stevens, UK at February 15, 2008 04:03 AM

XP is faster and runs a lot smoother than Vista and I think they know this but they do not like to admit that they have not developed it enough. Microsoft ha more money than it knows what to do with so the argument that they can't afford to keep it on is rubbish. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. I have just bought a new computer and I went out of my way to make sure it was XP as my friends have Vista and have had nothing but trouble since they changed from XP. Wash your ears out Mr Gates and listen to your customers

To HELL with Microsoft and to HELL with Vista!
What a heaping pile of dung Vista is!
This is like Windows ME all over again!
I refuse to have an inferior operating system shoved down MY throat. I have a lot of customers looking at Macintosh and Linux options because they *HATE* Vista. We make a TON of money removing Vista from new computers and UPGRADING them to XP.
In any event it is the MARKET that will decide if XP will live on and NOT Microsoft.

The best way to protest against the decision of Microsoft Corp. should be to set an Open Organization which could be able to support XP : it will become openXP ! We have to obliged Microsoft to publish the sources of the OS

I have been with MS for years, with all the upgrads 3.1,95,98,and now xp. This system works!!I'm looking to buy a new PC but am worried about my back ups not working with vista. I'm getting too old for this""". MS should leave things alone.Or wait tell all the holes fixed then try again. Maybe I won't be around by that time.
