Sourcefire acquires Clam AV
Snort owners add Clam AV to their stable.
It appears that they will mimic the Snort development track, and co-sponsor commercial and open-source models.

I agree that in the current climate of fear, consumers will most likely opt for less freedom (privacy) in exchange for more security (safety). I'm not sure it's a good thing though.
