CA Rolls Out Security, Data Backup Suites
Computer Associates International next Tuesday will unveil five separate software bundles aimed at SMBs that combine the company's antivirus and anti-spyware technology along with its data backup, restore functions, and advanced system migration technology.
Aimed at accounts with 250 users or less the Protection Suites combine the company's eTrust Antivirus, PestPatrol AntiSpyware, and BrightStor ARCServer Backup products.
The five offerings include the CA Desktop Protection Suite for protecting data on users’ desktops and laptops, the Protection Suite for protection of centrally stored and managed data, the Protection Suite for protection of both server- and desktop-resident data, the Protection Suite for Microsoft Small Business Server Standard Edition, and the Protection Suite for Microsoft Small Business Server Premium Edition.
"The whole premise here is to deliver to SMBs the functionalities that are easy to install and use and that allow them to get on with the main task at hand, which is doing business. With these suites we looked at the concepts of protecting, securing and moving the data all provided under one umbrella said David Luft, CA's senior vice president of SMB product development.
In justifying the delivery of the new bundles company officials pointed to a recent reported released by The Yankee Group that showed 67 per cent of SMBs interviewed ranked protecting the company from security breaches as their top concern as part of managing their infrastructure, with 60 per cent saying the next biggest concern was restoring and backing up data. In another study, conduced by IDC, almost half of those surveyed said they planned to upgrade their PCs by the end of this year, they noted.
The new Protection Suites are the first products to be produced by CA's new group dedicated to creating and marketing solutions specifically targeted at SMBs.
"One of the things we have discovered is that people in the SMB segment are not looking for enterprise products that have been de-featured and made into light versions. In fact, we have made products here that under the covers are actually more sophisticated than the versions the enterprises use. This is the technology that allows them to just keep clicking the "Next" button on the install. That is how simple they want it to be," said Gary McGuire, vice president of Product Management and Marketing for CA's SMB Program Office.
Scheduled to be available on July 15, price of the Protection Suites will range from $325 to $1,099 for five-user licenses. The products will be available through CA's channel partners including CDW, PC Mall and Tiger Direct as well as through the company's online store at www.ca.com/store.
