IBM reports double-digit growth in the SMB market in 2004
IBM appears to be continuing to gain more share in the SMB market, recently reporting that its Software Group has won over 23,000 new accounts in 2004, which is triple the number they had in 2003. Earlier this week when it reported its revenues and earnings for this year's second quarter, the company also reported that overall year-to-year SMB revenues grew at 12 per cent and that its SMB software offerings experienced double digit growth.
Company officials attributed its growth in the market, in part, to the $1 billion it has invested in a range of different marketing and technical resources for channel partners that sell into the SMB market, as well as in a number of ISV programs designed to help developers sell into that market.
IBM reported that the number of mid-sized partners now fully trained to sell and support Websphere also tripled over the past year and that the number of mid-size ISVs now enabled to sell and support its DB2 database technology doubled in 2004 compared to 2003.
