Series 60 Gets New Mobile Web Browser
For those who, like me, are starting to use more and more tools via mobile-device Web browsers, Nokia's got your back. The company announced plans back during the summer to develop a new mobile browser based on Javascript and Webcore frameworks, to be delivered in 2006.
Happily, during its Mobility Conference 2005 in Barcelona, Nokia already unveiled the new browser, aimed at the sexy new S60 phone platform.
What's the advantage? The components used in the S60 Web Browser are the same dev components used in Safari and KDE's Konqueror. While this gets you pretty much nada up front, Nokia hopes the open source hooks will enable better site experience development in the future. It also means the new browser supports all the latest buzzword standards, including CSS 1-3, XML, Flash Lite and even Netscape plugins.
