Less Facebook, More Business...

When I started thinking about writing this blog, my initial thought was, "What will it be about?" Enterprises need to understand both what's going on with the social media landscape (trends and such), but once you understand the trend, the next question is: "What does that mean to me/us?"

When I started thinking about writing this blog, my initial thought was, "What will it be about?"

Enterprises need to understand both what's going on with the social media landscape (trends and such), but once you understand the trends, the next question is: "What does that mean to me/us?"

So, they also need to get real-world information, from someone who helps businesses with the ins and outs of social media everyday, about best practices, techniques and strategies.

So, why not do it all?

And, thus this blog, Social Media 360 was born. The full view. The whole picture. 360.

I also wanted to be careful not to drift into too much Facebook/MySpace talk - just the facts for businesses (although there are salient business imnplications for those services).

And, thus the tag line "Less Facebook, More Business".

Stick around, grab the RSS feed, comment...you'll enjoy the ride.

Hi Lena,

Love where you're headed with all of this. Really great!

Question: I've often wondered why folks have used the term "Social Media" in the context of business. We struggled for a while. It seemed that "social" was the right word for now for obvious reasons. Then we started thinking about what all these new utilities seemed to be aimed at. What were the intentions of networking in the Enterprise? Of real-time communications, of posting status reports as blogs or using RSS? All those things, when aimed inside of companies, point to productivity gains, which is why we often refer to "Social Productivity" as the business application of Web 2.0 tools and culture in the Enterprise. Love to hear your thoughts on that.

Either way, your focus and contributions are extremely valuable. Look forward to staying connected.

Sam:

Thanks for the support!

I think all the labels are really buzz words for conversation and dialogue.

People buck against the term 'social media', understandibly, however the business realm is just 'getting' what this term means and if you call it anything else, it will only serve to confuse everyone further.

I think it's less about what you call it and more about what you DO with it and the RESULTS you get that makes a difference.

It's kinda like, I don't care what title you give me, just pay me.

Thanks for your kind words. Yes, please do stay in touch.
