Google infinite storage plan leaked

Reuters is reporting that Google is preparing to offer online storage to web users, creating a mirror image of data stored on consumer hard drives, according to company documents that were mistakenly released on the web.

The news was first leaked at the Geeking with Greg Web log.

Greg reveals from an analyst presentation (which has been pulled from the Google Web site) the following, which seems to confirm the Gdrive plan:

"With infinite storage, we can house all user files, including: emails, web history, pictures, bookmarks, etc and make it accessible from anywhere (any device, any platform, etc). We already have efforts in this direction in terms of GDrive, GDS, Lighthouse, but all of them face bandwidth and storage constraints today." — excerpt from 2006 Analyst Day presentation notes.

However, Greg notes a PDF alternative of the slideshow has been posted.

The blogosphere is rightfully buzzing.

Question is: where does this fit into the grand plan for world domination? Comments anyone?

Hmmm, having all of the world's information on your own servers would certainly help your global domination plans:
1. Organize everything - sure, that's the mission
2. Monetize everything - yup, gotta pay for servers, PhDs, and toys
3. Dominate everything - only if necessary to achieve #1 and #2.

How protected will this be? With the government going after hosting services how long would it be before a search warrant would be written for this data?

Also, how would one get it off their servers? Will they use this information to mine more information about us - with no payment or protection?

this is coming in many forms
I think I would rather have google or a private company to it than the gov't

there sre some semantic developments that need to take place first - how to find and store any info on anyone or anything

this could be a great thing or not but google is the best at what it does. If it is a free service and secure then it's ok with me.

I am guessing the NSA will get to scan and read all the data before it is ever uploaded to the G Drive like they do with all emails globally and all other electronic communications they have monitored for over a decade. Every email globally is scanned and read by the systems at the NSA (for keywords) at Menwith Hill, Yorkshire, England before we receive it. There are no secure things left in this world. Everything where security is involved was made by NSA and IBM when it comes to encryption so they can crack it all. Some have no care that their personal details are stored by the NSA but some value privacy and freedom. It is illegal in the USA and EU but of course the NSA are above the law just like the other criminals in power running the world. What fun it will be to see even more ID theft when info on national biometric identity card databases is sold to corporations by governments.
