Hotel security priorities

I stayed in New York last night for a talk I gave this morning. The hotel's security priorities were, um, interesting.

I wanted to print some notes for my talk, so I called the desk and got the six-digit access code to the business center. But when I entered the room, I was out of luck. Somebody had boosted the printer.

Oh well. I'd just have to read my notes onscreen. So I headed out into the monsoon. When I saw a full garbage bag come floating down the river that 46th street had become, it was clear that I'd need an umbrella. Back inside to the concierge desk where I was out of luck again. Because, get this, the guy who checks out the umbrellas is stuck in the tunnel, and he's the only one with the key.

Go figure.
